Benefits and Advantages of Using Green Energy

There is a lot of problem we face because we using mostly unrenewable energy. In this recent year,people and organizations began to consider and give attention to other form of energy. That energy is green energy and usually the part of that green energy were biomass energy. These people and organizations were concern about green energy because it is polluted and unrenewable nature. Among the people,company,and organization that giving attention and trying to encourage the use green energy were:

The company above, for example petronas, has developing some form of biomass energy like crude oil. The use of crude oil is consider by the company as the alternative from conventional petroleum. The developing of crude oil could sustain production and meeting the needs of petroleum in Malaysia. But,some parties disagree with the use of green energy. These parties were too come from varies people , company, and organization. In their general opinion,green energy was not needed yet and the world have to focus on development of current energy such as petroleum,gas,and coal. Here some of their argument about the lack of necessity and disadvantages for using green biomass energy:

1. Biomass produces green house emissions
The biggest argument against biomass is that it produces carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases. They argue that if biomass produced in mass scale it will give large amount of carbon to the atmosphere.

2. It takes more energy to plant
Green energy takes more energy to plant,cultivate and harvest the crops and trees than it is worth to get a net energy gain. It also takes up more water from the earth and other fossil fuels to make the fertilizers and fuels for planting and harvesting. It also, supposedly, takes up more land for the crops and trees.

3. Biomass crops not available all year
Corn, wheat, barley,crude and the like are seasonal crops. They are not available all year. Trees are also a slow growing resource even though they are renewable. This would also tend to be a negative on the side of biomass fuels.

4. Quantities of energy
One disadvantage with renewable energy is that it is difficult to generate the quantities of electricity that are as large as those produced by traditional fossil fuel generators. This may mean that we need to reduce the amount of energy we use or simply build more energy facilities.

In glimps, these disadvantages seems justified that biomass energy is hard to use and the still developing country can not use it because it high technology and the energy output. But, if we look again carefully in that reason, actually not all of these reasons true. Why? Because Today, we are now aware of the effects of global warming. Firstly,if we continue to use conventional energy we would ‘boiled’ ourself. Fortunately, it is not too late and we can still change, which is why many are pushing for green energy sources.

Secondly, the conventional energy like oil petroleum and natural gas were unrenewable. The CIA World Factbook estimate for 2010 the world consumes about 87 million barrels of oil and 3,2 Trillion cubic meter (m3)each day. This indicate that in average of 3-5 decade, most of that energy will run out and if we keep maintain the current level of conventional energy using,it will affect the global economy to steady decline. As we know,the economical wheel was depend on continuity of energy.

Moreover, in this recent year the development of the green biomass energy was began to grow fast in varies of nation, from developed country to developing country. In developed region like America and Europe, some form of biomass energy has been exstensively research to be use as an alternative energy,and so in developing country. From the varies of these research, revealed some plant can be use as sources of biomass energy.

Here’s the table of the plants:

There are many sources of raw materials of vegetable or plant in the world that can be processed into biomass. But, as we can see in the table, only few have the speed and high production value per hectare that can afford the urgent need for energy. The ITB Research team give data about the number of this plants value, and it is prove in Indonesia alone, Palm tree products 5000 kg /year, while coconut products 2.260 kg /year which can be extract into litres of biofuel/hectare/year. The research also give data about biofuel produce/year in some plant :

1. The use of green biomass energy reduces carbon emissions
Some people said the wide use of biomass energy would create large pollution. But, instead of creating large amount of pollution,the use of biomass energy will reduce the level of CO and CO2 in the air. Why? Because the plant or biomass need carbon dioxyde (CO2) for photosyntesis. CO2 were absorb so the plant can grow. Reduce of conventional energy usage and use of biomass energy can prevent the future impact of global warming.

2. Green biomass energy reduces organic sewage
Organic waste such as agricultural waste (straw, cob), biodiesel sewage processing (Jatropha seed shells, shell oil), municipal waste, sewage wood, twigs, and wood processing (Sawdust) is a less useful sewage. If the waste left discarded without burned first, it can release hazardous methane gas. The results of the sewage combustion ash that has a volume of 1% when compared with solid waste. To increase the calorific value and reduce emissions of organic sewage is usually carried out carbonization process. Besides that, the formation of a briquette useful as solid fuel.

3. Biomass energy stimulates economy
How a plant or biomass can stimulate economy? The answer of that question is,the biomass energy give advantage to most of the people. There are many people needed just to crop the varies of source of biomass energy such as coconut and rubber . If the plants produce in large number to fullfil the need of biomass energy, it would atract many people to work ,and it will reduce the unemployment problem. The cost for producing the biomass energy were also cheaper than the production costs of conventional energies so the businessperson, the company, or even the farmers which produce the biomass energy or the source plant of biomass energy can get big money/advantage. Most of the plants which be the source of biomass energy was also be the source of human food. This will require large field of biomass plant to fulfill the both need,so most possibly peoples began to create other large fields and it does not have to use the forest land. It can use other empty land like desert or step. This will obligate them to create technology to make the soil fertilize. This will stimulate researcher to work in research firm/company and a lot of people to have work. Slowly but sure,the economy will growth faster than ever before.

4. Biomass energy increases the standard of knowledge
In this recent year, the understanding of the needed of new kind of energy is growing and growing. The technology for cultivate/process the biomass plant was also a semi-high technology because it is extracting process. By using the biomass energy, farmers, scholars, researchers and the like could learn and get more knowledge about the biomass energy. They should learn about the soil, the market,the cultivation, and it is compatibility with various machines. It will increase the standard of knowledge because not only studied the plant and the soil if the biomass energy widely use but we will study about the economy, the machine, and the social structure and problem of society. There many example of this increase of technology standard,one of them are in indonesia:

This was the picture of Mr.Wahyono, the production manager of a furniture company in Central Java. He use the biomass waste wood gasifier plant, to provide thermal energy to dry 6 m3 of wood. According to him,the cost of the drying wood is now much less than before. Production facilities have two wood drying kilns each with 6 m3 each. Before use gasifiers, each oven used 84 coal briquettes and wood waste for each drying session of 12 days. Each coal briquettes were priced at 1200 rupiah. Now the drying time is reduced to 10 days, and the gasifier is shot down at night. Mr. Wahyono says, “We save about $ 450.00 dollars a month. Our gasifiers paid in less than 4 months. Now drying wood is faster, more economic and clean. We also feel good about not burning coal anymore.” In the town at developing country like Indonesia on the small scale compare of the biomass energy small scale using, the biomass energy increase the knowledge of the people and give advantage to the little company.

5. Biomass energy gives a constant energy supply
Because its renewable nature, biomass plant give a constant energy supply. Although depend on crops time, the plant could give enough source so the biomass energy can survive for a year like in Brazil.
Beside it is disadvantages,biomass enery has many advantages not only for the farmer but for the scholars, researchers, companies, and us as users and earth. It is on our hand now to choose.
